Founded on 12th June 1952, by few distinguished members, Arunodoy Sangha is a very popular club based in Bansdroni (Tollygunge, Kolkata). It is widely recognized as one of the oldest clubs in Tollygunge area which promotes various traditional cultural programs and social activities for more than seven decades. We celebrate indigenous and regional heritage, often featuring Rabindra Sangeet , Nazrul Geeti , folk music, classical & tribal dances, recitation and traditional drama. Organising Voluntary Blood Donation Camp is one of our most important social activities which we do every year on club's foundation day. This is the way, we preserve history and foster community connection. We embrace diversity with respect ,empathy and care .
The socio-economic condition of our area from early 50’s decade to middle of 70's , was very much challenging. People were more involved in their livelihood and subsistence rather than getting involved in the club for recreation . As a result initially almost for three decades, the club had battled financial struggles and lower-middleclass obscurity and could not grow consistantly due to paucity of funds.
Starting from a small temporary structure in 1952, our club now owns two triple storied buildings, along with a two storied sports centre and a Park for Children (at 150 ,Postal Park ,Bansdroni , Kolkata – 700070) . Such noticeable enhancement was possible only because of the illimitable spirit and integrity of our members . We pay our sincere gratitude to all of them for their honesty, sincerity and involvement .We also appreciate each and every member whose name are not furnished below but had their contribution towards the club irrespective of the magnitude.
Conquering all challenges, our club came across a long way to reach the threshold of the Platinum Jubilee . Total number of members at the moment is three hundred plus which is absolutely phenomenal and out of them almost one fifth of the members are women - this can be acknowledged as the "Women Empoerment" in our club . We support equal rights, equal opportunities, equal power for all members.
Our club remains grateful to all our past Presidents, Secretaries, Treasurers for administering the club with loyalty and trust .
Since its inception our club is involved in multifarious activities throughout the year which include- organising Durgotsa ,Shymapujo,Saraswati Pujo,Celebrating Independence Day, Republic Day , conducting various types of cultural programs like Rabindra- Nazrul Sandhya , Vasanta Utsav , Agomoni etc, educational programs arranging Symposium on the life of the greatest ever Hindu monk , philosopher cum spiritual leader "Swami Vivekanada" on his birthday every year, conducting of Mathematics coaching centre for under privileged students , Drawing Class for children , All Bengal Sit & Draw Competition every year and social welfare programs like Voluntary Blood Donation Camp , Eye Camp , Free Meditation Centre , Yoga Classes for women in association with Patanjali Yogpeeth . The club encourages youth to be engaged in sprots. It organises Annual Cricket Tournament , Annual Sports and facilitate different kinds of indoor and outdoor games.
Apart from these our club is also involved in numerous philanthropy services. In past when there was unexpected catastrophe or natural disaster which struck our country, our club immediately stepped up to support the victims with financial aid and necessity goods. During the pandemic " COVID 19” in the year 2020 club took a commendable initiative by distributing food items to the indigent people in our locality. The club bought portable sanitizing machine which was used to prevent spread of the this virus in our locality. A group of six-seven members of our club gave voluntary services by sanitizing the residences of the patients affected by Corona virus and also built social awareness among the local people about the disease. We salute all of them for their gallant effort during Pandemic.
Our club had always come forward to extend financial support (as medical assistance for their children) to our members who are really struggling to meet medical expenses.
The club will remain obliged to those members who were altruistically involved in mobilizing resources in terms of fund raising and securing grant in favour of the club. Few of them are - Sri. Sudhangshu Lahiri, Sri.Sitangshu Lahiri, Sri. Dhubabrata Sarkar, Sri Himangshu Bhusan Lahiri, Sri Sudipto Das , Sri. Alok Bhattacharya etc.
Few of our loyalist members residing abroad but whose generosity and financial support continues to make a profound difference in our journey - in this regard we extend our heartfelt thanks specially to Sri. Dipankar Mukherjee.
We also pay our heartiest gratitude to our beloved member Sri. Tapash Naskar for his immeasurable contribution and unwavering support towards our club over a decade.
We are deeply indebted to our former President Mr. Dulal Das who served us as the President for almost eighteen years . His placid behaviour and captivating personality is absolutely laudable and he has set an example for all his successors.
We are really fortunate to have a large number of committed​ female members with us who always take proactive role and volunteer their services during all social functions and events organised by our club.
We are truly grateful to those members who supported us financially to the best of their ability during the construction of the second triple storied building which has become the centre for all our core activities nowadays.
We acknowledge the contribution of Sri Bhanu Dey Sarkar, Sri Mihir Lal Samaddar, Sri Ajoy Ganguly,Sri. Dhananjoy Chatterjee, Sri. Sankar Banerjee, Sri. Ayan Pal, Sri Sajal Banerjee, Sri Debapriya Chakraborty, Sri Bimala Ranjan Mukherjee, Arup Chakraborty ,Sri Sukamal Malakar etc.Lastly the club will remember the contribution of all our deceased members - Late Purnendu Mukherjee, Late Nripendra Nath Mazumdar, Late Tripura Banerjee, Late Bijoy Lal Chakraborty, Late Himadri Bhusan Lahiri, Late Kamala Ranjan Mukherjee, Late Durga Mohan Bhattacharya, Late Arun Kumar Pal, Late Manojit Chowdhury, Late Dipankar Banerjee , Late Narayan Mukherjee, Late Asish Ghosh, Late Gopal Kundu, Late Sunil Dey, Late Timit Kumar Bose , Late Nikhil Sarkar etc.
At the end we look forward for more energetic and qualified people to join our hands them to carry the legacy in future .
